After a record $155 million opening weekend, “The Hunger Games” is poised to become Hollywood’s next major franchise. Its director Gary Ross, whose filmography includes “Seabiscuit” and “Pleasantville,” was presented with a few challenges when adapting the popular novel, including how to portray the child-on-child violence in a PG-13 way and how to give visual shape to characters and scenes that existed so vividly on the page for readers.

Are you interested in finding out more about the director’s work on the movie? Mr. Ross will be answering selected reader questions. Please ask them in the comments area below, and we’ll post his answers at the end of the week.
