(ABC) THE 2012 BILLBOARD MUSIC AWARDS Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell, who play Claire and Phil Dunphy on “Modern Family,” host this ceremony, broadcast live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and honoring Billboard chart toppers from Feb. 28, 2011, through March 1, 2012, in genres including R&B, rap, pop, country, rock, Latin and alternative. Kelly Clarkson, Chris Brown, Linkin Park, Nelly Furtado, Usher, Carrie Underwood, Justin Bieber, LMFAO, the Wanted and Katy Perry, who will present a new song, “Wide Awake,” are scheduled to perform. Stevie Wonder, above, will receive the Icon award, given to an “enduring legend in music.” Whitney Houston will be honored posthumously with the Millennium Award. Jordin Sparks and John Legend will sing in tribute; Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, and sister-in-law Pat Houston will accept the award on her behalf.

Ryan, Republican of Wisconsin, and Austan Goolsbee, the former chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, discuss the economy and its impact on the Romney and Obama campaigns. (Velocity) KING OF THE ROAD: CARROLL SHELBY Mr. Shelby, left, the automotive builder who died on May 10, is honored with this three-hour special, which chronicles his life from a Texas farm to his 1959 victory at Le Mans and his associations with AC Motors and Ford, which resulted in cars like the Cobra and the Mustang GT350.


9 P.M. (CBS) JESSE STONE: BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT (2012) In the eighth movie in this franchise, Tom Selleck reprises his role as Stone, who, as the police chief of Paradise, Mass., must sort through misleading clues and hidden meanings as he tries to solve a mob-related double homicide.


9 P.M. (AMC) THE KILLING Richmond (Billy Campbell) lends his support into the investigation of Rosie’s death. Linden (Mireille Enos) tries to track down Rosie’s key. And Stan (Brent Sexton) copes with his troubled son.


9 P.M. (Food Network) THE NEXT FOOD NETWORK STAR The finalists are divided into three teams, which must tour three different New York neighborhoods. Then each contestant is challenged to prepare a dish based on his or her discoveries.


9 P.M. (13, 49) SHERLOCK, SERIES 2: THE REICHENBACH FALL Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman reprise their roles as the current-day Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson in this “Masterpiece Mystery!” presentation. This season finale finds Sherlock piling up accolades in the press for his mystery-solving prowess, while John counsels humility. Meanwhile, Sherlock’s archnemesis Jim Moriarty (Andrew Scott) is busy plotting the crime of the century through a series of high-stakes face-offs that begin in the courtroom and end in the solution of a diabolical “final problem.”


10 P.M. (E!) MRS. EASTWOOD & COMPANY Clint Eastwood’s wife, Dina; his daughters Morgan and Francesca; their housekeeper; a menagerie of rescue animals; and Overtone, the a cappella group Mrs. Eastwood manages and plays den mother to, get their own reality series. A taciturn Mr. Eastwood makes a 75-second appearance in this premiere, though he’s apparently in Atlanta for a movie shoot for most of the rest of the time.


10 P.M. (HBO) VEEP Selina (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) becomes obsessed with the unflattering nicknames bloggers have started calling her. She then charges Dan (Reid Scott) with getting information from the White House after she is snubbed from a Senate briefing by the president. But Dan’s political maneuvering puts the fate of the Clean Jobs Bill on the line. In “Girls,” at 10:30, Hannah’s parents (Becky Ann Baker and Peter Scolari) fly her back to Michigan for their 30th anniversary. But instead of joining them on their date, she gets one of her own and catches up with some high school friends who are mourning a hometown tragedy. KATHRYN SHATTUCK
