Among the traditions of the “30 Rock” live episode, which that NBC comedy attempted for the second time in its history on Thursday, is to switch some of the celebrity cameos between performances of the show for East Coast and West Coast audiences.
For example, not long after 8:30 P.M. Eastern time on Thursday, “30 Rock” viewers in the Eastern half of the country were treated to this surprise appearance from Paul McCartney. (And check out the expression on Alec Baldwin’s face – baby, he’s amazed.)
Three hours later, “30 Rock” fans in the West enjoyed – if that is the right word – an unannounced walk-on from a different notable figure:
Will these two celebrity guests have similarly enduring careers and make equivalent impacts on the cultural landscape? Only time will tell.
